SKILLED Group to provide “myki mates”

SKILLED Group has been appointed to recruit, train and manage 600 customer service staff to support the roll out of the new “myki” smart card ticketing system across Melbourne’s public transport network.

Known as myki mates, staff will be deployed to meet demand across the network, helping train, tram and bus commuters to buy, use and understand the features of myki.

SKILLED Group CEO and Managing Director, Greg Hargrave said that the company was delighted to have been selected to support the delivery to Melbourne’s commuters of such a critical social infrastructure project.

“Our proven project management capabilities, strong safety focus, quality-assured systems, and track record in recruiting, training and managing large workforces were recognised by the TTA as delivering the seamless solution they were seeking.”

Recruitment activity will commence in mid-September, with an advertising campaign in MX, major metropolitan daily newspapers, local newspapers, and online.  The campaign will focus on attracting candidates with strong communication and interpersonal skills, and SKILLED Group will actively seek to recruit employees with multi-lingual ability.

“Every myki mate will receive a minimum of three days training prior to commencing work, encompassing customer service skills, myki product knowledge, and safe work practices”, Mr Hargrave said.

“Most importantly, the project will provide each myki mate with flexible employment opportunities, helping them to develop invaluable skills and experience that can be easily translated into other customer service environments once the myki rollout is complete.”

Potential myki mates will be able to apply from Friday 17th September 2009 via a dedicated candidate portal – www.mykimates.skilled.com.au.
