SKILLED Group in the Community

SKILLED Group is a business about people, with a strong set of corporate values that define our behaviours. The values that guide our actions at work extend to our engagement with the communities in which we operate.

With more than 160 offices throughout Australia and New Zealand we provide jobs to thoursands of Australians and contribute to the social fabric of local communities from Kurri Kurri in New South Wales to Bunbury tin Western Australia; Bundaberg in Queensland to Shepparton in Victoria and Auckland in New Zealand. Through our local branches, we provide sponsorships and grassroots support to hundreds of community organisations including indigenous groups and sporting teams.

We are proud to be a Supporting Sponsor of Reach, a not-for-profit organisation focused on instilling self-belief and confidence in young Australians to help them to achieve their potential and fulfil their dreams. As part of our sponsorship, our staff have the opportunity to become involved in the many workshops, activities and events organised by Reach to help teenagers to ignite a passion for life.

SKILLED Group has a long history and tradition of involvement with sport in Australia and we sponsor a range of professional sports including the Australian Dancesport Championships; the SKILLED Burnie 10 footrace; Skandia Geelong Week; The Bay Cycling classic in Melbourne; and the Holden Racing Team.

We have the naming rights for SKILLED Stadium, home of the 2007 AFL premiership winners the Geelong ‘Cats’ – as well as the naming rights to SKILLED Park in Robina, the new ground for the NRL’s Gold Coast Titans..

We are proud of our involvement in so many communities across Australia and New Zealand and we aim to make a positive contribution on behalf of our people at SKILLED Group.

Skills Shortages

With skills shortages continuing to provide challenges for Australian industry, SKILLED Group has a responsibility to encourage young people to become involved in the trades and assist with their training so that they can have a fulfilling and valuable future.

SKILLED Group is proud of its leadership position in the industry, providing careers to over 900 apprentices and trainees across Australia. As a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and Group Training Organisation (GTO) SKILLED Group is dedicated to the training, development and upskilling of Australians to help ease the nations skills shortages.

SKILLED Technical Trades Foundation

The SKILLED Technical Trades Foundation was established in 2004 to commemorate the retirement of SKILED Group’s founder, Mr Frank Hargrave AO and to acknowledge his contribution to Australian industry by promoting careers in technical trades.

The Foundation provides financial assistance and mentoring to assist trainees and trade apprentices to complete their technical qualifications. In acknowledging that some trainees and apprentices must overcome obstacles to succeed during their studies, the Foundation aims to provide practical assistance that may make the difference between award recipients completing their qualifications or discontinuing.

The broader goals of the Foundation are to promote skills and careers in technical trades for the future of Australian industry by acknowledging the commitment required of trainees and apprentices to complete their training.

The SKILLED Group Board has allocated $1 million over a ten year period to the Foundation. Since its inception, the Technical Trades Foundation has assisted 38 trainees or apprentices with recipients indicating that the Foundation has assisted them to:
  • improve their personal confidence;
  • provide them with greater satisfaction in their chosen career;
  • offer ore technical tools for their trade;
  • assist them with living expenses particularly when required to live away from home in order to undertake technical training.
SKILLED Apprentice and Trainee of the Year Awards

The annual SKILLED Apprentice and Trainee of the Year Awards was introduced in December 2003 to recognise and highlight worker’s achievements in the categories of ‘Best Apprentice’ and ‘Best Trainee’ across SKILLED Group. The Awards aim to encourage and support Australians in their vocational training endeavours.
